Sunday's Liberty game at 3:30 looks like League Pass only in this market, maybe NBA TV if the schedule shifted. I’m trying not to get caught in another silent-TV situation. Last road game I went to a place in Hamilton Heights that was great for Knicks, but the bartender said they only had the cable package and weren’t allowed to log into League Pass on a back screen. I get it, but I don’t want to do the phone-and-earbud thing again.
So the question: is there a bar uptown that reliably puts Liberty road game audio on for a regular-season Sunday game, not just during playoffs?
My ideal spot would:
- Have WNBA League Pass actually logged in, not just “we can probably find it.”
- Put the game sound on in a specific zone rather than piping one main TV to the whole room.
- Not charge a cover for a non-finals Liberty game.
- Ideally have something besides wings, but I’ll take wings.
I know a couple of Knicks bars in Harlem will do it if the right person is working, but on a Sunday with NFL on they rarely give audio to the Liberty screen. I’d rather gather a real list than walk into four places. If you’ve had it work, name the bar and the day/time.

Wait, is this game not on CBS or NBA TV? I thought all Liberty games were on YES or something. I’m still learning the blackout maze. If a bar has the game on a TV, don’t they usually put the sound on if enough people ask? I’d just ask the bartender. But now I’m realizing road games might be League Pass only. Let me know if you find a spot, I’m in Inwood and want to go too.

firstwinter, half the time “the game on TV” means it’s on one tiny screen with the sound off and the football game blasting on main. I’ve had the bartender at Tap & Groove near 145th put Liberty on with audio for a playoff game, but playoffs are different. For regular road games, it depends who’s working. They do have League Pass but their wifi can freeze. If you’re willing to go down to 125th, Row House? No, they changed to more of a club at night. Try At the Wallace maybe, they have multiple feeds and a back room.

Different borough but if you end up near Barclays, the spots around Fifth Ave usually aren’t good for WNBA audio; too much NBA/NFL. There’s a Caribbean spot off Flatbush that let me put the Liberty game on a back TV with sound last road trip, but I had to ask early and the place was empty. Might be tough for a 3:30 Sunday. HamiltonHeights_H is right about “playoffs are different.” A regular Sunday against Indiana? You might have to be your own audio and bring earbuds to the bar, no shame.

firstwinter, no, road games are often WNBA League Pass except the national windows. The distinction matters because a lot of bars have the cable package and even NBA TV, but they won’t have a League Pass login at the ready. If the game is on a channel the bar already pays for, sure, sound may happen if enough people ask. If it requires an app login, the bartender may not have access or authority.
If you’re going to call ahead, don’t just ask “are you showing the Liberty game?” That gets a yes from a host who means a silent corner screen. Ask two specific things:
- Do you have WNBA League Pass logged in?
- Can you put the game audio on in a zone, or is the main bar sound committed to football?
Last regular season I had decent luck at a spot near City College that put the audio on their back speakers because nobody was seated there. The problem is that it changes week to week with staffing. So a named spot only helps if we know the day and time it worked. That’s why I asked for specifics.

On the downtown side, The Basement on Christopher has a tiny back room and will usually give a smaller game audio if you buy food and ask before 3. It’s not a Liberty bar but better than Midtown. Caught an away Fever game there once with sound, they used the League Pass app on a smart TV. The bartender might need to reset it if it buffers.
Also for folks heading home via 14th Street, the bus payment thread probably applies: New to M14 SBS: do people actually tap at the rear door or is it a free-for-all?
Uptown spots I’m less useful, but I’d avoid anything that’s also a Jets bar on Sunday unless you know the manager.

Glad I found this. I tried a place down in Bay Ridge last road game, asked for Liberty audio, and the guy put on Knicks highlights instead because “same channel, basically.” Not even joking. I ended up streaming on my phone with one earbud. Ugh. Does anyone know if the places mentioned in Harlem let you stay without ordering a full meal, or is it sit-down? I just want a beer and no side-eye.
